Itsmyluckycharm splashes to victory in off-turf Portofino Bay

Itsmyluckycharm had a perfect trip on her way to a decisive six-length victory over Devious Charm in the $75,000 Portofino Bay for 3-year-old fillies at Gulfstream Park on Friday. She paid $4.60.
Originally scheduled at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, the race was contested over seven furlongs on a sloppy main track.
Breaking from post 2 with Albin Jimenez aboard, Itsmyluckycharm stalked the pace from along the rail. Jimenez patiently waited until pacesetter Jolie Bay drifted out leaving the turn. With clear sailing in front of her, Itsmyluckycharm made a quick move from along the rail to seize control of the race. Devious Charm rallied to edge Sweet Hitch Hiker for the runner-up spot.
The final time was 1:23.25.
Itsmyluckycharm is a homebred who races for Laurie Plesa and is trained by Eddie Plesa Jr.
It was the sixth win from 12 starts for the daughter of Itsmyluckyday.
