It's Turbo upsets W.T.B.O.A. Lads

It’s Turbo rallied from along the rail to upset the $50,000 W.T.B.O.A. Lads at Emerald Downs on Sunday.
He paid $26.60 for his three-quarter-length victory over Chuckanut Bay in the 6 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-olds colts and geldings.
Ridden by Leslie Mawing, It’s Tubro broke well enough from the inside post and Mawing was content to let him settle early while Chuckanut Bay, Mister Midas and J C’s a Legend dueled through a half-mile in 45.32 seconds. He appeared to be full of run on the turn, but had to bide his time until the rail opened up when Chuckanut Drive drifted out midstretch. Taking advantage of the situation, It’s Turbo finished with a rush and took control at the 16th pole. Chuckanut Bay held on well to finish a head in front of J C’s a Legend.
The final time was 1:17.60.
Mawing appeared to be limping after It’s Turbo dumped him while loading into the starting gate.
“I had a bit of a sting, but I really wanted to ride him today,” Mawing said. “I knew Frank had a couple of horses with speed and that it could set up for him.”

Mawing was referring to winning trainer Frank Lucarelli, who also saddled J C.’s a Legend and Deshambeau. Deshambeau was favored but never got involved after getting off to a slow start.
A California-bred son of Curlin to Mischief, It’s Turbo is owned by R.E.V. Racing.
Aloha Breeze paid $12 for her 4 1/4-length victory over Driveway in the co-featured $55,000 Barbara Shinpoch for 2-year-old fillies.
With Heribert (Eddie) Martinez aboard, Aloha Breeze broke alertly in the 6 1/2-furlong dash, prompted the pace inside of heavily favored Miss Dynamic, and drew clear in the stretch to win with something left. Driveway came from well back to pick up the runner-up spot. Miss Dynamic finished third.
The final time was 1:18.01.
A Kentucky-bred daughter of The Factor, Aloha Breeze made amends for her loss as the favorite to Miss Dynamic in the $50,000 Angie C. on July 10.
“It was a special win,” Martinez said. “We knew she had the talent and today she showed it.”
Aloha Breeze is trained by Tom Wenzel and races for George Todaro.
