Italian Derby winner out of Arc

Morshdi, winner of the the Grosser Preis von Baden and the Italian Derby, has been withdrawn from consideration for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp with a career-threatening injury.

Trainer Michael Jarvis said on Wednesday that Morshdi has suffered a leg injury that will cause him to miss the rest of the year and may force his retirement.

The loss of Morshdi from the prospective field for the Oct. 7 Arc follows by two days the loss of Chichicastenango, who is suffering from tendonitis, but comes amid growing optimism that Godolphin will run its impressive Juddmonte International winner Sakhee. As a result, Coral Eurobet has installed Sakhee as its 3-1 Arc favorite.
