Ispymytie still rules, takes Victoria Day

Adam Goss|May 23, 2001

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Monday's $27,500 Victoria Day for older fillies and mares began the stakes schedule at Assiniboia Downs, and Ispymytie continued her dominance here by taking the 5 1/2-furlong event by 1 1/4 lengths over Miss Sandy Dee.

Owned by Red Ron Farms, trained by Tom Dodds, and ridden to victory by Alan Cuthbertson, Ispymytie now is 6 for 7 at Assiniboia Downs and has amassed $95,570 of her $125,218 lifetime earnings here. Ispymytie, clocked in 1:07.20, returned $12.40 and topped a $37.10 exactor.

Christmas Lights, making her first start of the year, finished well to be third. Swiss Country, Danceprincedance, Cute Caboose, and Shezafrequentflyer rounded out the order of finish.

The next stakes race for older fillies and mares will be the July 1 Canada Day.

For Cuthbertson, the victory aboard Ispymytie was his first stakes win at Assiniboia Downs and capped his seven-win weekend, which led all riders. He currently is tied for second with Brian Harding in the local rider standings with 10 wins, one behind leader Jacques DesAutels.

Cuthbertson's other score Monday came in the third race aboard Kalfarri. Now undefeated in four lifetime starts, Kalfarri has look freakishly good in his two wins at Assiniboia Downs this year.

Gary Danelson and Leonard Anderson led all trainers last weekend with four victories apiece.

Anderson, whose four wins came from just six starters, currently is 6 for 9 on the year.

Danelson's nine victories at the meeting place him atop the local trainer standings, and he also now is tied with the late Don Gray on the all-time victory list for trainers at Assiniboia Downs.

Danelson has four horses entered Friday (in races 2 ,4, 6, and 8) and will be looking to break Gray's record on the eight-race card that begins at 7:35 p.m.
