Islingtlon romps in Yorkshire Oaks

Islington demolished a high-class field in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks on Wednesday in England to establish herself as the leading 3 year-old filly in Europe.

Her five-length trouncing of Italian Oaks winner Guadalupe came in a fast time of 2:26.74 for 1 1/2 miles. Group 1 juvenile winner Sulk ran third while Kazzia, winner of the 1000 Guineas and English Oaks and the 6-5 favorite, faded to fourth.

The 2-1 second choice in the field of 11, Islington, loving the good to firm ground, challenged Kazzia shortly after entering the half-mile stretch and took the lead 2 1/2 furlongs from the line, striding clear with authority.

Winning trainer Michael Stoute said that "the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf is definitely a possibility" for Islington, but he is undecided as to where she will run before then.
