ARCADIA, Calif. – Iron Man Cal, second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar last November, but sixth in the Grade 1 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 3 in his first race this year, is scheduled to start in the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar on July 18. The gap between the $1 million American Turf and the restricted Oceanside is not ideal, trainer Phil D’Amato said over the weekend at Santa Anita. “I wish there was a race at the end of the meet [at Santa Anita],” he said. :: Santa Anita Clocker Reports are available every race day. Access now. Santa Anita concludes its spring meeting on June 15. The track ran its final stakes for 3-year-olds on turf on May 11, the $100,500 Cinema Stakes. At the 2024 spring meeting, the $100,000 Singletary Stakes was run in late April and the Cinema was run in mid-June. The Singletary Stakes was not offered this year, along with 10 other $100,000 stakes, in a cost-saving move. Iron Man Cal, who worked a half-mile in 47.80 seconds at Santa Anita on Monday, has won 2 of 5 starts and earned $288,730 for the partnership of Little Red Feather Racing and Madaket Stables. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
