Irish Marvel romps in Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante
Irish Marvel improved to 2 for 2 in dominating the $59,650 Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante for statebred juvenile fillies Friday at Hawthorne.
Routing for the first time after narrowly winning a maiden race sprinting at Hawthorne on Oct. 26, Irish Marvel handled the added ground and vault into restricted stakes company without difficulty. She settled comfortably in second early in the 1 1/16-mile Whitworth as Get None established fractions of 24.38 seconds, 48.69, and 1:13.85. The winner took command leaving the second of two turns, and drew away under minimal encouragement from jockey Edgar Perez to score by nine lengths. A daughter of Daaher co-owned by breeder Kathy Halleran and trainer Jim DiVito, she raced 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:47.05, paying $7.20 as the second betting choice.
Ronan, a maiden who had gone unplaced in four prior starts, rallied from fourth in the field of five to grab second, edging favored Booda Lou by a head. Pacesetting Get None was next in fourth, followed in last by first-time starter Brilliant One. Be Authentic was scratched.
