Irian puts his perfect 3-for-3 record on the line at Chantilly on Sunday in the $560,000 Prix Jean Prat, a Group 1 mile for 3-year-old colts. A son of Tertullian trained by Jens Hirschberger, Irian is coming off a 1 1/2-length victory in the Group 2 Mehl-Muhlens-Rennen, or German 2000 Guineas, and is capable of handling this step up in class. Stephane Pasquier picks up the ride. Oiseau de Feu and Handsome Maestro will be dangerous after their one-two finish over the course and distance in the Group 3 Prix Paul de Moussac on June 7. Westphalia, third in both the French Derby and the French 2000 Guineas, will represent trainer Aidan O'Brien, while Lord Shanakill, a sharp third behind Sea the Stars in the 2000 Guineas, invades from England for Ken Burke. The Group 3, $112,000 Prix Chloe at 1 1/8 miles for 3-year-old fillies includes two candidates for Arlington Park's Beverly D. Stakes. Denomination, trained by Criquette Head-Maarek, won the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux before failing in the French Oaks, while the Mikel Delzangles-trained Providanza is coming off a win in the listed one-mile Prix des Lilas. * At Hamburg on Sunday, Wiener Walzer can add to the reputation of his sire, Dynaformer, in the 1 1/2-mile, $700,000 German Derby. Like Irian trained by Hirschberger, he won the 1 3/8-mile, Group 2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen on June 14 and is out of the Kingmambo mare Walzerkoenigin, a two-time Group 2 winner who also won the Prix Chloe and was second in Belmont's Flower Bowl. His main challenger will be the Peter Schiergen-trained Saphir, winner of the Group 3 Bavarian Classic.
