Irad Ortiz wins six on Saturday; Jouster impressive on Sunday

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. stole the show here Saturday, posting six wins on the card, including aboard Great Island in the Suwannee River Stakes.

Sunday’s card was highlighted by Jouster’s victory as the 1-10 favorite in an allowance race under Luis Saez. The win was her second in as many starts on turf, and it came over a course rated good.

Todd Pletcher trains Jouster, a 4-year-old daughter of Noble Mission, for Starlight Stable.

“I was a little concerned running on soft ground because she handled the firm ground so well last time, but she dug in and found a little more when she had to despite going quick internal fractions,” Pletcher said.

Gladys, a full sister to 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, finished second in her turf debut, beaten less than two lengths by Jouster.
