Invitational captures Carotene

Invitational captured her first stakes Saturday at Woodbine under jockey Jono Jones in the $164,000 Carotene, winning the turf race for Ontario-foaled 3-year-old fillies by two lengths over longshot Silver Impulse.
The race was marred by an accident involving Count to Three, who crashed through the temporary rail just inside the three-sixteenths pole, unseating apprentice Emma Wilson. Wilson, Woodbine's leading rider, injured her right leg and was taken to hospital. Count to Three appeared to be uninjured.
Top Ten List and Count to Three dueled through quick fractions. Invitational loomed four-wide into contention on the turn and overtook Silver Highlight in midstretch before coasting home.
Invitational ($5), the 3-2 favorite in the seven-horse field, covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.39. She is trained by Catherine Day Phillips and owned by Kingview Farm and Cudney Stable.
- Mister Coop ($3.80) led throughout the supporting feature, the $81,000 Mt. Sassafras Stakes, a seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-foaled runners.
