PHOENIX – The main issue in the two stakes Friday at Turf Paradise is whether the locals can ward off the invading horde from Southern California. Raiders Wicked Trick and Tiger Dad head a field of six in the $60,000 Luke Kruytbosch, while Clockstrikestwelve invades to lead a field of seven fillies and mares in the $60,000 City of Phoenix. Both races are at a mile on the main track, the Luke Kruytbosch going as race 7, the City of Phoenix race 6. Wicked Trick invades for trainer Bob Hess Jr. off a second in a very strong allowance race at a mile on Nov. 4 at Del Mar, where he earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure. There’s back class to the 6-year-old gelded son of Hat Trick, too, as he ran second in the Grade 3 Westchester in May at Belmont, where he earned a 101 Beyer. Tiger Dad ships in off an easy $50,000 claiming win Nov. 12 at Del Mar, where he was claimed by Robertino Diodoro. The 5-year-old gelded son of Smiling Tiger was a stakes winner and stakes-placed in Southern California in 2020. Raagheb, Dynamic Ruler, and Arizona Moon carry the local flag as they just finished 1-2-3 in an allowance race at this distance here Nov. 8. Top of the Game is the other local and comes here sharp off an easy allowance win at this distance on Nov. 18. :: Get up to 50% off DRF Past Performances, Picks, and more! Blazingbellablu is the main local hope for trainer Charles Essex. After some good work at Emerald Downs this year, including winning a stakes, she came here for the Jeff & Jack Coady Sr. Stakes at six furlongs on Nov. 6. She bided her time and rallied strongly to win the Coady comfortably. Her best work has all come sprinting, so this distance as well as the presence of Clockstrikestwelve is a hurdle.
