PHOENIX – Local juvenile bragging rights are up for grabs Wednesday at Turf Paradise with the $60,000 Lost in the Fog Juvenile and $60,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies. The Lost in the Fog (race 7) drew a field of nine juvenile males as the local contingent looks to fend off Southern California raider Man Child and New Mexico invader Fleet of Flags. The Arizona Juvenile Fillies (race 6) lured seven 2-year-old fillies as crack local filly Beyond Awesome faces Southern California invader Modera. Both races are at 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track. Man Child, owned by California Racing Partners, Ciaglia Racing LLC, Michelle Hanson, Richard Pearson, and Robert Drenk and trained by Ryan Hanson, won his debut July 3 at Los Alamitos, then ran third in the Grade 3 Best Pal at Del Mar Aug. 14 and third in the Capote at Los Alamitos on Sept. 25. The son of Creative Cause got thrown into the deep end next in the Grade 1 American Pharoah at Santa Anita Oct. 8, whern he finished a non-threatening fifth. Fleet of Flags, a son of Midshipman owned by Masino Racing Stable and trained by Bart Hone, was third in a stakes at Albuquerque on Sept. 18 and third in a stakes at Zia on Nov. 22. He gets blinkers for the first time. The local contingent has some oomph of its own. Big Creed was a romping winner here of his debut Nov. 30; Loudmouthsoup has won his two starts this meet after shipping in from Kentucky; Hi Yah blasted maidens in his debut Dec. 8 here; One in Vermillion makes his first start since easily winning a stakes here May 7; Noble Crusader and Katar were second and third, respectively, just behind Loudmouthsoup in a tough allowance sprint here Dec. 1; and Acceleritas was fourth behind Noble Crusader, beaten less than a length, in his first start here Nov. 15 after invading from Prairie Meadows. Arizona Juvenile Fillies Beyond Awesome, a 2-year-old filly by Boos owned by Jeremy Ramsland and trained by Justin Evans, was a smart second in an allowance race here Nov. 14, then set a hot pace before fading to fifth in a stakes here Dec. 10. She could easily bounce back. Modera, a daughter of Lea owned by Windy Ridge Stables and trained by Sam Scolamieri, got her diploma at Santa Anita on Oct. 15 and was then third against winners in a starter-allowance sprint at Los Alamitos on Dec. 9. Aloha Breeze invades from Emerald Downs where she won a stakes and finished second in another, and Creme de Menthe is back in vs. fillies after dueling and finishing a respectable fourth here Dec. 1.
