Interpol targets Canadian International

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Interpol doubled up in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf on Sept. 13 at Woodbine and will now point to the Grade 1, $1 million Canadian International on Oct. 18, trainer Sid Attard said.
The Ontario-bred has won his last two starts, taking the Grade 2 Sky Classic Stakes and the Northern Dancer Turf under Emma-Jayne Wilson. Attard said Interpol has come out of the Northern Dancer Turf in good order and likely will resume breezing a couple of weeks out from the Canadian International.
“He’s very good,” Attard said. “We’re going to work him a couple of weeks before the race and then a week before.”
Interpol has excelled at long distances on turf and could be dangerous in the Canadian International. The 4-year-old son of English Channel won his maiden going 1 1/2 miles on grass after finishing second to Ami’s Holiday in the Breeders’ Stakes over the same distance last season. He’s won 4 of 6 starts this year, including the 1 1/4-mile Sky Classic and the 1 1/2-mile Northern Dancer Turf.
“He doesn’t care about the distance, really,” Attard said. “He loves the distance.”
