Inspiral comes dressed up for Fillies' Mile

Validation of the English 2-year-old filly Inspiral’s apparent talent has traveled all the way to North America.

Three for three to start her career and the strong favorite in Friday’s Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket, Inspiral won the listed Star Stakes at Sandown Park by 3 1/2 lengths over Wild Beauty for her second win. Wild Beauty, also entered in the Fillies' Mile, shipped to Canada last month and won the Group 1 Natalma at Woobine by more than two lengths.

Inspiral, by Frankel out of Starscope, by Selkirk, has won her two stakes by more than three lengths, following the Star Stakes win with a Sept. 9 romp in the Group 3 May Hill over a straight mile, same as Friday’s contest, at Doncaster. The mount of Frankie Dettori, Inspiral has shown high-level acceleration in her two stakes wins, and in the Star came from last at the top of the homestretch to win going away.

Two fillies, Concert Hall and Magical Lagoon, come from Ireland and both as of Wednesday were general 6-1 co-second choices in antepost wagering offered by British bookmakers. Concert Hall, a Galileo filly trained by Aidan O’Brien, was only fourth last out making her fifth start in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes though the top two finishers, Discoveries and Agartha, look like very good fillies.

Concert Hall came back in the Weld Stakes on Sept. 26 and defeated Sunset Memories, who’d been third in the Moyglare Stud. Magical Lagoon, a twice-started Galileo filly trained by Jessica Harrington, exits a decent Group 3 win on Aug. 27 in Ireland.

Mise En Scene, 2 for 2 to start her career, also looks talented though she, like Inspiral, has started only on good to firm courses. Newmarket, as of Wednesday, was rated good to soft, though that might not slow Inspiral, who looks like a potential high-class performer for co-trainers John and Thady Gosden.
