Inisherin was a convincing 2 1/4-length winner as the 9-4 favorite in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup for 3-year-olds at Royal Ascot last June. He is back at the same world-class race meeting on Saturday with an excellent chance to win the $1.34 million Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Both the Commonwealth Cup and Jubilee Stakes are run at six furlongs on a straightaway course. Inisherin may be better as a 4-year-old than he was last year. In March, Inisherin underwent a breathing operation. He has started once this year, winning the Group 2 Duke of York Clipper Stakes at six furlongs on a straight course at York on May 14 as the 11-8 favorite. Trained by Kevin Ryan, Inisherin may not be favored in a field of 16 in the Jubilee Stakes, the leading race on the fifth and final day of the Royal Ascot meeting. Inisherin was 9-2 in early betting Thursday behind the well-traveled 4-year-old gelding Lazzat at 10-3. Satono Reve, a Grade 1 winner in Japan in March, and Storm Boy, trained by the powerful Aidan O’Brien stable in Ireland, were both 5-1. Inisherin will be ridden by William Buick, who takes the mount for the first time on a colt who is best when racing on or near the lead. :: Royal Ascot 2025: Get PPs, previews, analysis, recaps, and more Lazzat, trained in France by Jerome Reynier, won the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last August, France’s leading sprint of the summer. Lazzat was beaten in his next three starts, including a second of 20 in the $6.57 million Golden Eagle Stakes at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Australia, last November. After finishing fourth by a length in the Prix Altipan at a mile at Saint-Cloud Racecourse in Paris in March in his first start of the year, Lazzat rebounded to dominate seven rivals, winning the minor Prix Servanne by 5 1/2 lengths at six furlongs on May 2 at Chantilly. Satono Reve is easy to like. A 6-year-old, he won the Grade 1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen at six furlongs at Chukyo Racecourse in Japan in March and was second by 2 1/4 lengths to Ka Ying Rising in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong on April 27. Ka Ying Rising is widely considered to be one of the world’s finest sprinters. This is Satono Reve’s first start away from the Far East. The Jubilee Stakes is the third race on a seven-race program that begins at 9:30 a.m. Eastern. ◗ The race preceding the Jubilee Stakes is the Group 2, $335,600 Hardwicke Stakes for older horses at 1 1/2 miles. Rebel’s Romance, winner of the Breeders Cup Turf at Keeneland in 2022 and at Del Mar last November, was a slight favorite at 11-4 as of Thursday over Al Riffa, winner of the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin in Germany last August, and Ghostwriter, who was sixth in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland on May 25. ◗ Betting on Royal Ascot comes through the World Pool, where massive handle reduces the late odds fluctuations decried in American betting. The World Pool offers win, show, quinella, omni, trifecta, and treble wagers. The omni requires a bettor to select two horses to finish among the top three. The treble is a parlay-style pick three. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
