ETOBICOKE, Ontario - First-time starter Inglorious overcame a tardy start to graduate in style Sunday at Woodbine in the $150,000 Fanfreluche Stakes. Favored Medabuck set a fast pace in the six-furlong dash for 2-year-old fillies, before giving way to 13-1 shot Dreamy Moonlite, who hit the front entering the lane. Inglorious, meanwhile, broke about four lengths behind the others from the 1-hole and trailed early. Chantal Sutherland angled her wide on the backstretch, and Inglorious loomed into contention while four wide on the turn. She wore down Dreamy Moonlite in the stretch before edging away for a 1 3/4-length tally in 1:10. Weekend Romance was a stalking third, and Medabuck faded badly to trail the five-horse field of Ontario-breds. Lassair was a scratched in the warmup. Sutherland said she wasn’t surprised to see Inglorious miss the break or win. “We had worked her from the gate before, and she did the same thing, so I wasn’t worried about it,” Sutherland said. “She had shown so much in the mornings, and I was hoping she was what I thought, and she really is. I never really got to the bottom of her down the stretch. She’s pretty impressive.” Inglorious ($11.40) collected $90,000 for Donver Stable and trainer Josie Carroll. * Hotep led throughout Sunday’s other stakes, the $100,000 Mobil, which was taken off the turf and run on the Polytrack. With Patrick Husbands aboard, the Mark Frostad-trained Hotep covered the nine furlongs in 1:50.63, while scoring by 3 3/4 lengths over favored Stormy Lord. He paid $4.60.
