Infinite Patience much the best in Fantasy Stakes
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Infinite Patience remained undefeated in five starts with a dominating performance in the $75,000 Fantasy Stakes at Hastings on Sunday. She paid $2.20 for her 4 1/4-length win over Enchanted Lady in the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-old fillies that drew four horses. No place or show wagering was allowed
As in all of her races, Antonio Reyes had Infinite Patience well in hand when she posted a stakes-record time of 1:44.16.
Infinite Patience broke alertly from post 3 and was inside while sitting just off Miss Prospector, who held a half-length advantage after a half-mile in 47.25 seconds. The race was pretty much over when Reyes gave Infinite Patience her cue at the quarter pole. She quickly opened a clear lead, was well clear turning for home, and was on cruise control the rest of the way. Enchanted Lady came from a stalking position to finish second. Miss Prospector finished third over Everything’s Quiet, who never got involved.
It was the first time Infinite Patience, a British Columbia-bred daughter of Sungold, tried a middle distance.
“I never pushed her,” said Reyes. “She was inside Miss Prospector, but it didn’t bother her. She doesn’t care where she is, so you can put her anywhere. She is a very special filly.”
Infinite Patience is trained by Barbara Heads. She was bred by William DeCoursey who owns her in partnership with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Nugent-Hopkins is on a roll. He is a center for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. The Oilers are undefeated in five games this year.
The winner's share of the purse brought Infinite Patience’s earnings to $209,500.
