Indyanne scratched from F-M Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif. - Indyanne was the fastest horse in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint scheduled for Friday, but the speedster will return home empty-handed after a minor illness knocked her out of the $1 million race in which she would have set the pace.

No one knows how far she would have lasted, but trainer Greg Gilchrist assured, "They were going to see her gray ass, I can tell you that; they were going to have to catch her."

After shipping from Golden Gate Fields on Tuesday, Indyanne came down with a slight temperature Wednesday, she started to cough, and left feed in her tub. "Its a bunch of little things that add up to a big thing," Gilchrist said. Indyanne was officially scratched from the Filly & Mare Sprint on Thursday morning.

"If this was seven days earlier, we would have been through it, and we would have been okay," Gilchrist said. "I would imagine by race day she will be out here bucking and kicking."

Indyanne is owned by David and Jill Heerensperger.

"They were disappointed," Gilchrist said. "You get all this buildup, then you get this phone call."

Gilchrist said Indyanne would stay in training, with a variety of options. "She has not been on turf and has not stretched out, so well get her home, get her well, and it wouldnt be a surprise to see her run on turf, or a mile."

Indyanne, a 3-year-old filly by Indian Charlie, has earned $434,870 by winning five of six including two Grade 3 races.
