Indy Wind romps in Frisk Me Now

Joe DeVivo|Jun 07, 2008

Indy Wind provided further proof that he's extremely fond of Monmouth Park when he returned from a 2 1/2-month layoff to capture Saturday's $70,000 Frisk Me Now Stakes for the second straight year.

A three-time stakes winner in New Jersey last year, including the Skip Away at Monmouth and the Alysheba at the Meadowlands, the 6-year-old Indy Wind ($9) was only the third choice in a field of seven older horses at 7-2. He made that price seem generous by cruising to a 7 1/2-length victory under Stewart Elliott.

It was Indy Wind's sixth win in 10 starts at Monmouth and his eighth victory in 19 starts overall for trainer Amy Tarrant and his owner, the Hardacre Farm. He covered a mile and 70 yards on a fast track in 1:39.52.

Tarrant said Indy Wind will be pointed toward the Grade 3 Salvator Mile on July 5.

Buffalo Man, the 3-1 second choice, finished second, two lengths in front of Judiths Wild Rush.

The Scott Lake-trained Coyoteshighestcall, favored at 2-1 after winning 6 of his last 7 starts, was far back early and never threatened, finishing fifth.

Candy Eclair: Beau Dare sharp on turf

Beau Dare ($4.40), returning to the turf for the first time since last fall, captured the $60,000 Candy Eclair Stakes for fillies and mares by a neck over Anofficerandalady.

Ridden for the first time by Elliott, the 5-year-old Beau Dare gave the meet's leading trainer, Bruce Levine, his 18th winner in 36 starts. She pressed pacesetter Bikini Atoll, took over in midstretch, and was all out to hold off Anofficerandalady, who been laid off since winning her turf debut at 53-1 last October.

Beau Dare, who trains at Belmont Park, had been freshened since flashing speed and tiring in the Grade 2 Distaff Handicap on Aqueduct's inner track in late March. Although only 3 for 15 on grass, she performed well when shortened to turf sprints last summer, winning a high-priced optional claimer at Saratoga and finishing second in back-to-back stakes at the Meadowlands.

The winning time for 5 1/2 furlongs on grass was 1:03.12.
