Indomable Cartel leads all the way in Cherry Creek Futurity

Indomable Cartel dominated in his trial for the $74,680 Cherry Creek Futurity last month at Arapahoe Park and backed up the performance Saturday in the finale, leading throughout for a 1 3/4-length win over Shinning Bianca.

Indomable Cartel had won his trial by the same margin June 30 and was the fastest qualifier for the series Saturday.

The Cherry Creek Futurity shared a card with the $59,580 Lucille Rowe Derby, won by a length by Iza Captain ($14.20). Both races were for Quarter Horses, and each was restricted to those bred in Colorado. The races were among the richest offerings of the ongoing meet at Arapahoe.

Indomable Cartel on Saturday covered 330 yards on a fast track in 17 seconds. He returned $4.40. Fernando Fonseca-Soto was aboard for Mariano Cornejo and trainer Luz Chavira. Indomable Cartel earned a first-place check of $29,872.

Iza Captain covered 350 yards in 17.84 seconds. Jose Ruiz was aboard for Pedro and Lilia Andazola and trainer Julio Corral. Shes My Foose, the favorite, finished third in the Lucille Rowe.
