Indiantown Sunrise should appreciate added distance in Glorious Song
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Indiantown Sunrise should enjoy the move out to seven furlongs in Saturday’s $125,000 Glorious Song, an open stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine.
After graduating at first asking in a five-furlong turf sprint Sept. 6 at Gulfstream, Indiantown Sunrise was purchased privately by Joey Gee Thoroughbreds. In her first start for trainer Pat Parente on Oct. 11, she rallied inside to finish a clear second behind the easy gate-to-wire winner Pohdi Pohdi in the six-furlong Victorian Queen Stakes.
Parente scratched Indiantown Sunrise from another Ontario-sired stakes last Saturday, the 1 1/16-mile South Ocean.
“I think the seven-eighths will suit her a little better right now,” said Parente.
“She seems like a nice little horse. She’s done everything I’ve asked her to do. She doesn’t have the early foot to stay with a horse like Pohdi Pohdi, but she does have a nice kick.”
The Glorious Song attracted seven others, and goes as race 8 on a 10-race program.

KEY CONTENDERS
Indiantown Sunrise (Beyers: 70-52)
◗ She is from the first crop of Canadian champion 3-year-old male and Queen’s Plate winner Not Bourbon, who himself was a precocious stakes winner. Expect her to stretch out successfully in the future.
Her Majesty’s Flag (Beyer: 41)
◗ Trainer Dave Cotey said she needed some time off after winning her debut in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race on May 23.
“We brought her back nice and slow,” Cotey said. “We tried to get her into allowance races, which didn’t go. She’s been working well with older horses, and I think she’s pretty fit. I expect her to run a decent race. I think she’s a really classy filly. She looks like a 3- or 4-year-old.”
Mississippi Delta (Beyers: 76-51)
◗ She defeated her upwardly mobile stablemate Shez a Masterpiece when graduating in her last outing Sept. 13 in a briskly run 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race.
◗ Trainer Mark Casse swept both stakes here last weekend, including the $125,000 South Ocean.
Responsive (Beyers: 64-48)
◗ After ending up second to eventual South Ocean winner Galina Point in her debut, she won a six-furlong maiden special weight race by a neck on Oct. 18.
◗ Casse sent her out to breeze five-eighths in a bullet 1:00.40 last Saturday.
Pankhurst (Beyers: 56-35)
◗ The third Casse entrant, she was supplemented at a cost of $2,500 off a victory over $50,000 maiden claimers.
Roaming (Last 3 Beyers: 38-38-65)
◗ She’s shortening up off two straight double-digit losses in graded stakes company.
