Indiana Grand: Heavy chalk Daddy Justice prevails
Daddy Justice, heavily favored at 1-5, comfortably beat six rivals in the $75,000 Paul Tinkle ITOBA Stallion Season Colts and Geldings Stakes, a heavily restricted race for Indiana-breds on Wednesday at Indiana Grand.
Ridden by Albin Jimenez for trainer R. Gary Patrick and owner Cindy Patrick, Daddy Justice swept four wide into the homestretch from just behind the leaders and bounded to a 1 ¾-length victory over 2-1 second choice Sky Pilot. Daddy Justice, a son of Lantana Mob, ran one mile in 1:38.48 and paid $2.40 to win.
The sister race to the Paul Tinkle, the ITOBA Stallion Season Fillies, looked much weaker on paper, and turned out that way, too. The winner, Show Me Indy, had just finished second in an Indiana-bred $10,000 non-winners-of-two claimer, and her winning one-mile time of 1:41.37 was nearly three seconds slower than that of Daddy Justice, who has been competitive in stakes races merely restricted to Indiana-breds.
Show Me Indy, Jimenez up again for trainer Barbara McBride, wore down 4-5 favorite Rockin Cityweekend to win by 1 ½ lengths. She paid $6.60 as the second betting choice.
