Indiana Downs: Slew City Boy rallies to take Governor's

Longshot Slew City Boy edged past favorite Buster Jones in late stretch to win the $87,350 Governor's at Indiana Downs Wednesday evening. Buster Jones led to the final stages and finished second, 5 1/4 lengths in front of Purely Amature in third.

Trained by Bill Hall and ridden by Azael De Leon, the 3-year-old Slew City Boy bested six other statebred colts and geldings in the one-mile turf event. He covered the distance in 1:39.53 and returned $42.

Also, Wednesday, Jardim came from just off the early pace under Marlon St. Julien to win the $105,750 Golden Bear.

Trained by Eduardo Caramori, Jardim edged past Country Flavor late to win by a half-length. Gautier, making his first start in the U.S, was third, 1 1/4 lengths farther back. The running time for the 1 1/16 miles over a fast track was 1:41.19 and Jardim returned $29.40 to win
