Indiana Derby field of 10 includes Shared Sense, Major Fed

Ten 3-year-olds were entered Thursday in the Grade 3, $300,000 Indiana Derby, which will be contested next Wednesday at Indiana Grand.
The Indiana Derby is a points race on Churchill Downs’ Road to the Kentucky Derby series, with 34 Kentucky Derby qualifying points distributed 20-8-4-2 to the top four finishers.
The Grade 3, $200,000 Indiana Oaks attracted 11 entrants as part of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series with the same number of Kentucky Oaks points divided along the same lines as the Indiana Derby.
Indiana Grand has so far run a delayed 2020 meet without spectators but limited attendance will be permitted beginning with an all Quarter Horse card July 4.

It’s hard to pinpoint the favorite for the 1 1/8-mile Indiana Derby. Shared Sense, trained by Brad Cox, finished second to Art Collector in a very fast Churchill Downs allowance race last out. He’ll attract support as will Major Fed, who ran poorly in the Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill after getting pushed very wide around the first of two turns.
The field, from the rail out, is No Getting Over Me, Extraordinary, Taishan, Earner, Shared Sense, Background, Juggernaut, Major Fed, Winning Impression, and Necker Island.
The race is the 11th of 12 on the card with post time set for 7:45 Eastern.
The field for the Indiana Oaks, race 10, consists of Fire Coral, Lucky Betty, Tempers Rising, Impeccable Style, Miss T Too, Shedaresthedevil, Aurelia Garland, Spartanka, Alandra, Bayerness, and Gibberish.
Shedaresthedevil, winner of the Grade 3 Honeybee earlier this year, looks like she could be favored for Cox and jockey Florent Geroux, who also rides Shares Sense in the Indiana Derby.
Three other stakes are carded on a program beginning at 2:20 Eastern.
