Include Betty will switch to turf for Valley View

The dream season Brereton Jones is having with the 3-year-old fillies Lovely Maria and Include Betty carried into last weekend at Remington Park.
Include Betty invaded Oklahoma and won her fourth stakes of the year last Sunday in the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks. She used the same serious closing kick that helped her snatch the Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs in January, the Grade 3 Fantasy at Oaklawn in April, and the Grade 1 Mother Goose at Belmont in June.
“She’s quite a tenacious little package,” said Jones, who races Include Betty with Timothy Thornton.
The next stop for Include Betty could be a start at Keeneland. Following her win at Remington, she shipped to the Lexington, Ky., track.
“She’s going to stay at Keeneland right now and probably run in the Valley View Stakes, which would be on Oct. 24,” he said. “That gives her plenty of time.”
Include Betty would be moving back to turf for the Valley View. The Grade 3, $150,000 race for 3-year-old fillies is 1 1/16 miles. Include Betty, who won at the distance in Oklahoma, last raced on turf in March and closed from 11th for fifth in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks.
Jones, who on Sunday has Lovely Maria going for her third Grade 1 win of the year in the Spinster at Keeneland, is savoring his season with the fillies. He recently spent time with Include Betty, who was actually unaware of the visit from her co-breeder, co-owner, and the former governor of Kentucky.
“She sleeps all the time,” Jones said. “I went by the barn a few days ago to see her in the morning, and she was sound asleep. Everybody else was up. We didn’t want to wake her. We let her sleep. She just really takes care of herself.”
As for Lovely Maria, the right performance Sunday would send her to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Jones is pleased that she’s back at Keeneland, where she won the Ashland Stakes. He also likes the move back to 1 1/8 miles because Lovely Maria’s defining win came at the trip in the Kentucky Oaks.
He’s Comin in Hot gets vacation
He’s Comin in Hot, who dominated the Grade 3 Bashford Manor this summer at Churchill Downs, is getting some time off and will return to action at 3, trainer Bret Calhoun said. The horse raced last Sunday, finishing second in the $75,000 Kip Deville at Remington.
“He ran a hard race,” Calhoun said. “We’ve sent him to the farm, and we’ll rest him for a while. He’s getting a well-deserved rest.”
He’s Comin in Hot won three of seven starts this year, with his other stakes win coming in a division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Retama Park for owner Doug Scharbauer.
