Improving fillies meet in Wine Country Debutante

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Things can change overnight with 2-year-olds – something that may become apparent when six 2-year-old fillies meet at six furlongs Friday in the $50,000-added Wine Country Debutante at the Sonoma County Fair.
Five of the six last raced July 5, with the sixth making her first start since June 22. Two have won stakes, and one placed in stakes. One won her debut by five lengths, but it was in a claiming race.
So, what has happened in the past month – or, in one case, six weeks? Who has improved, and by how much? Has anyone regressed?
Those are the key questions going into the Wine Country Debutante.
KEY CONTENDERS
Wedding Blush (Beyer: 63)
◗ Her Beyer Speed Figure for only start was higher than the Beyer for the winner of the Juan Gonzalez, but it came in a $25,000 maiden claimer.
◗ Her internal fractions were slower than the stakes runners.
◗ Rail draw forces her to gun early.
Go to the Alter (Last 3 Beyers: 41-58-37)
◗ Showed improvement in her first three starts and was favored in the Juan Gonzalez, where she was a non-threatening fifth.
◗ Barn keeps its No. 1 jockey aboard, Frank Alvarado.
◗ She outworked stablemate Can Can Baby by six lengths in a five-furlong work here Sunday.
Seduire (Beyers: 65-82)
◗ Likely favorite beat the 2-5 Enchanting Lady at Santa Anita in her debut and earned an 82 Beyer.
◗ Finished second to Enchanting Lady in the Landaluce at Santa Anita on June 22 in her only other start, finishing 6 1/4 lengths back of the winner but 3 1/4 lengths ahead of the third-place runner.
◗ Russell Baze chose to ride her over Do the Danse, who won the Juan Gonzalez.
Do the Danse (Beyers: 54-54)
◗ She’s won both her starts, both at Pleasanton.
◗ Graduated gamely after stalking the pace in her debut and then won the Juan Gonzalez by three lengths wire to wire.
◗ Drawn just outside stablemate Seduire, and it’s possible they could compromise each other, but she probably will stalk the pace.
Can Can Babe (Beyer: 60)
◗ Stablemate of Go to the Alter was the even-money favorite against colts in winning a stakes at Boise.
◗ Worked slower than stablemate in five-furlong work here Sunday.
Sea Mona (Last 3 Beyers 45-42-49)
◗ Trailed in Landaluce and Juan Gonzalez and hasn’t shown early foot.
◗ Has two slow works since running fourth in Juan Gonzalez.
