Imprimis to begin another Breeders' Cup drive in Silks Run Stakes

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Imprimis competed in both the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, and will try to make it again at the age of 8. Imprimis is likely to make his 2022 debut a week from Saturday in the $100,000 Silks Run here, said trainer Joe Orseno.
Imprimis underwent a second throat surgery after closing out his 2021 campaign with a 10th-place finish in the Grade 3 Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 11. Imprimis has nine wins in 21 career starts with earnings in excess of $883,000.
Orseno has had him for all but his first two starts. Imprimis has not competed locally since rallying to a neck decision over Extravagant Kid in the Janus Stakes 14 months ago.
“He’s been training great,” Orseno said. “He had his last breeze on Tuesday on the Tapeta, and we’re looking to bring him back in the Silks Run, although he’s not on any real time schedule at the present time.”
Orseno said it appears Imprimis has come out of his latest surgery better than ever considering the way he’s been training this winter.”
“This surgery was really successful,” said Orseno. “I don’t hear him make any noise anymore. You don’t hear him galloping, you don’t hear him breezing and he’s been galloping out great. We breeze him on the Tapeta and he’s handled it fine. I would probably prefer to breeze him on the turf, but since we can’t do that here, the Tapeta is easier on him than working on dirt.”
