Impressive trial winners ready to shine in Rainbow Futurity
Based on their performances in the trials, Getthere Fast and Cyber Attack should vie for favoritism in the Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity for Quarter Horses on Sunday at Ruidoso Downs.
The 400-yard Rainbow is the second leg of Ruidoso’s rich series for 2-year-olds, which concludes in September with the All American Futurity.
Getthere Fast ran second in the first leg of the series, the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity on June 12. He finished a length and a half behind stablemate Otts Boy, who is awaiting the All American trials and will work Monday, according to trainer Toby Keeton.
The absence of Otts Boy could make Getthere Fast the favorite for the Rainbow, as could his trial performance. He was the fastest qualifier on the second day of trials July 9, when he covered 400 yards on a sloppy track in 19.64 seconds. There were a total of 34 trials for the Rainbow.

“I was really nervous,” Keeton said. “It was windy, there was a strong head wind, and it was raining. The weather can change in two seconds around here. He ran a flawless race. He left there in front and just kept widening.”
Bryan Candanosa was aboard and has the mount again Sunday from post 9.
“He is really doing good,” Keeton said of Getthere Fast. “That horse seems like he just improves after each race. He just gets a little bit bigger, a little bit smarter. This horse is really maturing.”
Getthere Fast, who is 3 for 4, is a son of Tempting Dash owned by Simmons Racing.
Cyber Attack was the fastest qualifier on the first day of trials July 8, when he zipped 400 yards with a tailwind on a fast track in 19.44 seconds. Cyber Attack romped by 2 3/4 lengths, winning his maiden in his second career start. Eduardo Nicasio was aboard and again has the mount from post 5.
Cyber Attack is a son of Favorite Cartel who races for Rosenthal Ranch and is trained by Christopher O’Dell.
Hes Judgeandjury was the second fastest qualifier on the first day of trials with a time of 19.63 seconds. Prior to the start, he was third in the Ruidoso Futurity. He’s one of three starters in the Rainbow finale for trainer Heath Taylor. The others are Chasing Aj, the Ruidoso Futurity favorite who finished fifth and returned to win his Rainbow trial by 2 1/2 lengths, and El Gran Ferrari, who won his maiden in his July 8 trial.
The $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile on the undercard is a consolation at 400 yards. Hooked N Gone should get good support off his runner-up finish to Getthere Fast in the trials for the Rainbow.
