Impressive Canterbury winner Vallestina takes talents to Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. – It’s rare to see a horse win by 17 1/2 lengths going just 5 1/2 furlongs, and rarer still to see a horse win a maiden-claiming race at Canterbury Park and then show up at Del Mar, but the filly Vallestina, who runs in race 6 on Wednesday, ticks both of those boxes.

After her runaway debut win at Canterbury on June 24, Vallestina, 3, was purchased privately by the Eclipse Thoroughbred Partnership headed by Aron Wellman. Because she raced for a tag in her debut, Vallestina, a daughter of Leroidesanimaux, is eligible to a starter-allowance condition, which she is using for the six-furlong race Wednesday.
“Aron was very high on her after she broke her maiden,” said Michael McCarthy, who now trains Vallestina. “She seems to be training forwardly, acts like she has a touch of class.”
Flavien Prat has the mount.
