Imperial Eagle in trials for Hobbs America Futurity

Mary Rampellini|Sep 22, 2016

Imperial Eagle will be making his first start since winning the $3 million All American Futurity during Saturday’s trials for the Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity at Zia Park. He will start in the second race, one of six trials for the finale that will be run on Oct. 9.

Imperial Eagle, who will be looking for his fifth consecutive win, will break from post 7. Esgar Ramirez will be aboard for the 400-yard race, one start after he guided Imperial Eagle to a neck win in the All American on Sept. 5 at Ruidoso Downs. It was the first stakes win for Imperial Eagle, who races for Charles E. Robinson and is trained by Tony Sedillo.

“I had a clean trip,” Ramirez told Ruidoso officials after the All American. “My horse broke really good. [Coronas First Diva] was in front of me a neck at most, and I asked my horse to keep going. The longer he goes, the better he gets.”

Sedillo said Imperial Eagle is now based at Zia.
