Impel to make next start in Oaks prep

Impel is set to advance to a Kentucky Oaks prep after running her record to 2 for 2 with an impressive allowance win March 3 at Oaklawn. She darted home by more than eight lengths.
Impel is a homebred for the Juddmonte operation founded by the late Prince Khalid bin Abdullah. She is by Quality Road. Impel won her debut in a maiden special weight sprint at Fair Grounds.
“She’s doing well,” said trainer Brad Cox. “She’s back at the Fair Grounds. We’re talking with Prince Khalid’s family to come up with a plan. Obviously, we’re looking at the Ashland. It’s probably the most logical spot based on timing, but I wouldn’t say the Fantasy is out of the picture.”
The Grade 1, $600,000 Ashland is April 5 at Keeneland. The Grade 3, $750,000 Fantasy runs March 30 at Oaklawn.
Impel was always prominent in the allowance win at Oaklawn.
“I like that she put herself in the race and finished up well,” Cox said.
Impel earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 91, the second highest for a 3-year-old filly so far this year, behind the 93 that Kinza earned winning the Grade 3 Las Virgenes at Santa Anita.
