I'm Workin On It stays unbeaten in Goldfinch
ALTOONA, Iowa - Heavily favored I'm Workin On It remained undefeated by winning her stakes debut in Saturday night's $75,000 Goldfinch at Prairie Meadows.
An Indiana-bred 3- year-old filly trained by Lynn Chleborad, I’m Workin On It bounded clear from seven rivals in the final furlong to record a three- length victory.
Ridden by Alex Birzer, I'm Workin On It ($3.60) settled behind eventual second-place finisher Royal Song Dancer's demanding pace before cruising up in hand on the turn. She forged clear when Birzer gave his cue, handling the muddy surface easily.
Covering the Goldfinch's six furlongs in 1:10.85, I'm Workin On It earned $45,000 for owner William E. Oswald. Oswald purchased the daughter of Quien for a mere $2,500 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton's October 2013 sale. I'm Workin On It remains untested after a pair of relatively easy Oaklawn Park wins this year. Her career earnings are $124, 500.
Royal Song Dancer, conditioned by Chad Cook and ridden by Alex Canchari, dug in gamely to fend off the five-wide rally of third-place finisher Easter Indy. Canchari was subbing for jockey David Mello, who was injured in the paddock before the first race.
Mello, the leading rider here last season who was off to a good start with six wins through three programs, was injured and taken to a local hospital when his mount, Aksel G T, reared up and fell over on him. Aksel G T was scratched.
No information was available on the condition of Mello and Aksel G T.
