Please Flatter Me takes Alma North
Please Flatter Me flattered Covfefe when she captured the $100,000 Alma North one start after finishing second to that rival in her tour-de-force performance in last month’s Grade 3 Miss Preakness at Pimlico.
The Alma North was a seven-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies.
Please Flatter Me ($2.80) was prominent from her rail post, contesting fractions of 22.55 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.57 for the half-mile. She was a three-quarter-length winner over Parisian Diva, while it was another length back in third to Gotta Be Strong. Please Flatter Me covered the distance on a fast track in 1:22.44.
“We were going to see how she started and whether we were going to go to the lead or were we going to stay, but with the one-hole I didn’t have too many options,” winning jockey Alex Cintron told the publicity department at Laurel. “She got there and she was so comfortable. Even going so fast, she was doing it so easy. I feel so confident on her because she always tries hard, so I just left her there and she gave me a nice kick at the end. In the middle of the lane she got to looking at something in the infield a little bit and slowed down, but as soon as she felt that horse coming she kept going again.”
Trainer Mark Reid told Laurel officials Please Flatter Me could run next at Saratoga.
Please Flatter Me was winning the third stakes race of her career. She is a daughter of Munnings who races for the partnership of Heider Family Stables, Madaket Stables, and Doheny Racing Stable. Please Flatter Me has now won 4 of 6 starts and $254,268.
