Im Evin Im Leavin clearly best in Century Casino Oaks
Im Evin Im Leavin established herself as the top 3-year-old filly in Western Canada with a convincing win in the $100,000 Century Casino Oaks at Century Mile Saturday. She paid a generous $8.60 for her two-length victory over Whoop It Up in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.
The Greg Tracy-trained Im Evin Im Leavin broke sharply and sat just off Miss Invasive and Summerland, who dueled through a half-mile in a quick 46.04 seconds. She hooked up with Summerland at the six-furlong mark, started to assert her authority midstretch, and never looked threatened by Whoop It Up who rallied from well back to finish second. Summerland, the 3-2 favorite, broke poorly and after rushing up to engage Miss Invasive held on well to finish third.
The winner was ridden by Prayven Badrie.
“She relaxed nicely but when Summerland came up on her outside she really wanted to go with her,” said Badrie. “I got her to relax, though, and she finished strong.”
The final time was 1:49.93

“Prayven did a great job,” said Tracy. “There was a huge test on her when Summerland came up to her. She wanted to run off, but he settled her and she re-broke.”

Earlier, Smart Fix came from last to win the $75,000 Northlands Distaff Handicap by four lengths over the Tracy-trained Raider. Port Protection rallied to finish third in the 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares.
Ridden by Rigo Sarmiento for trainer Jerri Robertson, Smart Fix posted a final time of 1:48.73. She paid $31.80.
Heavily favored Good Luck to You stumbled at the start and then was rank before fading to finish seventh. It was a tough day for trainer Phil Hall who trains Good Luck to You and Summerland.
