Grade 1 winner I’m a Chatterbox is spending her second summer at Delaware Park with trainer Larry Jones. On Saturday, she will get to race over the Delaware track for the first time. I’m a Chatterbox made her three summer starts last year at Saratoga and Parx Racing. She beat Curalina by a nose in the Coaching Club American Oaks but was disqualified to second. She was the runner-up to Embellish the Lace in the Alabama and then scored her Grade 1 victory in the $1 million Cotillion in September. On Saturday, I’m a Chatterbox will prep for the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap, set for July 16, in the $100,000 Obeah Stakes, a 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares. I’m a Chatterbox kicked off her 4-year-old season by finishing second in the Grade 3 Doubledogdare at Keeneland on April 22. She worked back on May 9 but then didn’t breeze again until May 31. She had her final Obeah work on Monday. “We considered the Ogden Phipps, but she sprained an ankle about a month ago, so we ended up missing a major work that we needed for that race,” Jones said. “But this race fell into a great spot for a backup plan, plus we get a trip over the track before the Delaware Handicap.” I’m a Chatterbox, the 3-5 morning-line favorite in the five-horse Obeah field, could race at Saratoga later this summer. “Hopefully, the Obeah and the Delaware Handicap will set her up for some of the big races at Saratoga later on,” Jones said. The Obeah also includes Calamity Kate, who scored her biggest win in the Delaware Oaks last summer for trainer Kelly Breen, and Genre, a winner of two straight for Todd Pletcher.
