Eight-year-old looks to be racing himself back into shape. Making fourth start off long layoff, he battled on the lead, put away his chalky pace rival and just was pipped on the wire by a good-setup closer. Fits well in $5,000 conditioned claimers going 5 1/2 or 6 furlongs.

Dueled 14-1 shot Tappahannock (finished last) for the first half-mile, opened up a clear lead on the turn and succumbed to closers in the stretch. Gelded son of El Padrino is in good form and should go well in a non-winners of three starter-optional claimer. Keep an eye on turf as well during the spring.

Finish: 4th by 2

Had no-chance trip in first start on dirt and first overall since August. Steadied several times inside on the backstretch, came widest into the lane and finished with some interest. Might need a drop into a maiden seller, but fits at a mile on dirt or turf.
