Multiple graded winner Icy Atlantic will enter stud in Panama after being purchased privately by Raul Gonzales-Abreu, owner of British Mist Stud Farm.\nAn 8-year-old Stormy Atlantic horse, Icy Atlantic last ran on May 23, when he finished ninth in the Elkwood Stakes at Monmouth Park. He currently is in Venezuela, where Gonzales-Abreu plans to run him in the Venezuelan Grade 1 X Clasico Internacional Propietarios La Rinconda in Caracas on Aug. 30. Icy Atlantic will then retire.\nHis career record stands at eight wins, 11 seconds, and three thirds from 48 lifetime starts, and he has earnings of $993,700. \nBred and initially campaigned by Arthur Appleton, he was privately purchased by James Scatuorchio. For Appleton, Icy Atlantic won the Grade 3 Jersey Derby in 2004 and the Battlefield Stakes in 2006. He also finished first in the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes in 2004 before being disqualified to second place. Scatuorchio bought Icy Atlantic in August, 2006, after which the horse won the Grade 2 Arcadia Handicap and Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes in 2007 (setting a one-mile course record of 1:32.42) and the 2008 Bonnie Heath Turf Cup for Florida-breds.\nIcy Atlantic placed in 11 stakes, five of which were graded. \nHe is a son of Frosty Promise, by Frosty the Snowman, and is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Wild Promises.\nPedigree Consultants brokered the deal with British Mist Stud Farm.
