I Spent It works sharply for Saratoga Special

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – I Spent It, a sharp debut winner at Belmont on July 2, worked a strong five furlongs in 1:00.10 over Saratoga’s main track Monday in preparation for Sunday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Saratoga Special at 6 1/2 furlongs.
With jockey Javier Castellano in the irons, I Spent It broke off at the half-mile pole and went a bit quickly early but still came home in 24.07 seconds and then galloped out six furlongs in 1:12.90.
“He was awesome,” trainer Tony Dutrow said. “Oh, my God, I’m just thrilled. It wasn’t unexpected. I’m so happy. The horse has always acted really special, and to watch him do that today, I’m just thrilled.”
A large field is forming for the Saratoga Special, including a trio of horses from Todd Pletcher’s stable – Blame Jim, Nonna’s Boy, and Stanford.
Nonna’s Boy and Blame Jim, both owned by Mike Repole, went a half-mile in company, with Nonna’s Boy finishing about a length in front. He was timed in 48.24 seconds, while Blame Jim was given a time of 48.59.
Stanford worked in company with the filly Angela Renee, going together through a half-mile in 48.25 seconds. Angela Renee is expected to run in Sunday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.
Others expected for the Saratoga Special include Cleveland Sound, Mr. Z, Rod McLeod, Tizcano, and W V Jetsetter.
