Hypocrite prompt favorite in Valid Video

DRF Now|Aug 02, 2008

Sent off as the favorite in a field that included multiple stakes winners Wise Answer and Go Go Shoot, Hypocrite didnt disappoint. The 3-year-old colt rallied to catch Go Go Shoot inside the eighth pole and hold off a late run from Wise Answer for a 1 3/4-length win in Saturdays $55,000 Valid Video, one of three stakes on the program at Calder.

Ridden by Pedro Monterrey Jr., Hypocrite stayed in midpack early in the 6 1/2-furlong Valid Video as Go Go Shoot set fractions of 21.79 seconds and 45.00. Hypocrite angled outside when making his run in the stretch, stopping the clock in 1:18.23 on a fast track and paying $5.60 to win. Wise Answer beat third-place Make Me Zach by a half-length as Go Go Shoot faded to fifth.

Hypocrite, a son of Outofthebox, is trained by Emanuel Tortora.

* In the first stakes on the card, the $75,000 Georgia Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Juvenile Filly Turf Dash, the Wesley Ward-trained filly My Sweet Natalie drew off to a five-length victory under Pascacio Lopez. Jungle Jill was second and Wild Actress third in the field of 10, all progeny of GTOBA-nominated stallions.

My Sweet Natalie led throughout the five-furlong race, setting fractions of 21.79 seconds and 45.39 before stopping the timer in 57.23 on a course rated good. She paid $5.80 to win as the favorite.

* An even heavier favorite, the 1-5 Joffes Run, had little trouble taking over from the pacesetter Amazing entering the stretch en route to a 2 1/2-length win in the $55,000 Regal Gal Stakes. Amazing held second by a half-length over Tidal Dance. Jermaine Bridgmohan rode Joffes Run ($2.40), who covered a mile in 1:40.77 on a fast track for trainer Marty Wolfson.
