ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Hurricane Clair took the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes as a 7-1 overlay while upsetting odds-on choice Stormcast in the anchor leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara on Sunday at Woodbine. Stormcast went straight to the front and set honest fractions in the 1 1/4-mile test for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies, which was run over a main turf labeled as good. Hurricane Clair stalked in second and then wore down Stormcast in the stretch to prevail by a half-length, in a quick time of 2:01.14 seconds. Saccharine rallied for third and was followed by My Girl Della, A Little Frisky, Vucchella and Quality Presence. Sahin Civaci rode Hurricane Clair for trainer Marty Drexler, who sent her out to finish third in the Woodbine Oaks and second in the Bison City, the first two Tiara races on the Tapeta. :: Bet with the Best! When it was time, I just notched up to (Stormcast) and it was a battle between two good horses. They were both holding their ground. We just inched up (in front) before the wire. She’s getting better and better. In the Oaks, she was a little lazy around the turn and I had to get after her. She’s getting her confidence and knowing what’s going on. She’s running much better now.” Hurricane Clair ($16.40) earned $150,000 in her second stakes score for the partnership of David Rowbotham, Rodney Carpenter and Tony Boogmans. The Ontario-bred is by Silent Name and out of a mare by Weather Warning, whom Drexler sent out to win the 2007 Manitoba Derby. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
