Humorously, 'Ting' win OBS co-features

Dave Goldman|Mar 15, 2004

OCALA, Fla. - The filly Tingwithlasting is headed north to Keeneland and the colt Humorously is returning home to Calder Race Course following their victories in Monday's $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for 3-year-olds at the Ocala Training Center.

The races, one division for fillies and the other for males, were part of the annual Ocala Breeders' Sales racing festival, which consists of six stakes.

Tingwithlasting, with Frank Lovato Jr. in the saddle, made every stride a winning one as she romped to a five-length victory over Special Report in the Championship Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. Runaway Rizzi finished another 5 1/2 lengths back in third. Time for the 1 1/16-mile race was a track-record-equaling 1:44.20.

It was the second win in five starts for Tingwithlasting, a daughter of Wild Rush. In her last she set most of the pace in the Tiffany Lass Stakes at Fair Grounds before tiring to finish fifth. Tingwithlasting is being considered for the Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland.

In the male division of the OBS Championship, Harbour Gate was expected to set the pace. But he acted up in the post parade and unseated jockey Pat Day, then ran off to the stable area. The stewards scratched him.

Humorously, by Distorted Humor, opened up a comfortable lead and won the 1 1/16-mile race by 8 1/2 lengths, also in 1:44.20. It's Lucky finished second, with Cheetah Speed third.

"We're going back to Calder without any special plans," said Bill White, trainer of Humorously.

Valid Move, ridden by Patrick Husbands, won the $50,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by 1 1 1/2 lengths in 1:11.20 for six furlongs.

In the colt division, Edgar Prado guided Baronage to a length victory in 1:10.60. It was the fourth win for Baronage, who had last raced in the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes at Santa Anita.
