How Kenny Peck will play Breeders' Cup Friday 2019
A very interesting pick-five sequence greets players on the first day of the Breeders' Cup starting in race 5, with a couple of races seemingly wide open and others - at least on the surface - that appear to be more manageable. Here's one way to play it, featuring a couple of singles as well as a pair of wide spreads.
Race 5: Using them all in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, the first of the Breeders' Cup races this weekend, as the Juvenile Turf Sprint is - unsurprisingly - very tough to plot, and thus difficult to pare down. Sure, 7/2 morning-line favorite Kimari is capable, but the fact her odds are so high on the line is telling as to how competitive this race is. I'll wrap it up with the push of one button for the purposes of this ticket, but a weighted ticket would have Dream Shot, Alligator Alley, Band Practice, and A'Ali as "A" and "B" plays. (12)
Race 6: Vitalogy closed with a rush in the Grade 3 Bourbon last time at Keeneland and he also rallied strongly in the Summer two back; should get faster fractions this time around in the Juvenile Turf. Decorated Invader has won two straight, including the Summer Stakes over Vitalogy, and now adds Lasix for the first time. Hit the Road takes the worst of the draw but he's one to use nonetheless, as he was very impressive in his Zuma Beach score. Despite the post, he's the "A" in this play. (3)
Race 7: Going to take a stand with British Idiom in the Juvenile Fillies. She was most impressive in the Alcibiades in her most recent and not only earned a strong figure but showed she can rate comfortably off the pace going two turns, which is not something some of her main rivals have shown. Hoping she sits another perfect trip off a contested pace. (1)
Race 8: Much like the opening leg, here's another deep field of 2-year-olds on the grass, this time fillies going long in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. And once again it's a race in which to spread. Crystalle, Sweet Melania, Daahyeh, Selflessly, and Albigna are preferred, and fillies to press with as "A" or "B" plays, but for the purposes of this ticket I'll use them all. (14)
Race 9: Thinking that Eight Rings is the most likely winner on this card. He was sharp in his American Pharoah score despite racing under pressure on the lead from the start, and he could well get an even easier trip in terms of race flow in the Juvenile, which seems to be light on early pace. Further, the scratch of Maxfield makes his task that much easier today. (1)
Pick five play: ALL / 4, 5, 14 / 4 / ALL / 6 = 504 Combinations ($252 Ticket)
If the two singles are the correct races in which to take a stand, the Pick four becomes very playable, and there's an opportunity to create value in this sequence as well with the "All" button in the Juvenile Fillies Turf (race 8):
Pick four play (Races 6-9): 4, 5, 14 / 4 / ALL / 6 = 42 Combinations ($21 Ticket)
