Mountaineer's Saturday, Aug. 3, race card features a pick four, and DRF's Michael Hammersly has you covered with his A's, B's, and C's for the sequence. You can use his picks or build your own ticket in DRF's FREE TicketMaker tool. The sequence begins with Race 5 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern and includes the featured West Virginia Derby. Good luck!

RACE 5 (West Virginia Senate President's Cup S.)
PRISSY (#2) is 3 for 4 on turf and since those 3 wins came at BEL, KEE and CD odds are she’ll handle this place. SOFT WHISPER (#3) set the pace under pressure before finishing a good 4th in a Grade 3 at CD June 8 and was 3rd in a tough turf race at ELP July 6. PROENZA (#7) brings the horse-for-course angle as she’s 2 for 2 here. It’s a class hike but she obviously likes this place.

Horses to use: 2 (A), 3 (A), 7 (B)

RACE 6 (Senator Robert C. Byrd Memorial S.)
GENTLEMEN’S BET (#5) is a complete standout but will reportedly go in the Grade 1 Vanderbilt at SAR instead. RUSSELL ROAD (#3) remains a tough old warrior and can bounce back after a dull run here just a few days ago (July 28). If ‘BET scratches, substitute JASIZZLE (#4) who has speed and is 2 for 5 here.

Horses to use: 3 (A), 5 (A)

RACE 7 (West Virginia Governor's S.)
MORDI’S MIRACLE (#7) continues his sharp form and looks ready for this step up in class. TAPTOWNE (#3) comes off 2 strong 2nds including in the Grade 3 Cornhusker so he’s got quality. PERCUSSION (#6) is a proven commodity (Grade 2 placed just under 2 months ago). EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH (#1) is capable of big things when in the mood, has been freshened since a Grade 3 2nd and boasts 2 big LRL bullets for this to indicate he’s feeling good.

Horses to use: 6 (A), 7 (A), 1 (B), 3 (B)

RACE 8 (West Virginia Derby)
BETWEENHEREANDCOOL (#4) just missed in the G3 Iowa Derby in a fine try. He’s come into his own in recent months and another step forward can get the money. SAY OW (#3) blossomed in SoCal. It’s a big step up, it’s not BHP synthetic or turf, but a super :59.40B bullet work here July 29 says he’s doing well and likes it here. OVERANALYZE (#9) is the one to beat after facing the best of his crop. He’s capable of big things, but can also throw in a clunker. He is stuck on the far outside. DEPARTING (#5) was overmatched in the Grade 1 Preakness. He’s been freshened and drops.

Horses to use: 3 (A), 4 (A), 5 (B), 9 (B)
