After coming up short to Come Prima in his last two starts, 3-year-old gelding Silhoutte Cove turned the tables on his familiar rival to win the $75,000 Jump Start Stakes at Parx Racing on Wednesday. Both runners were facing older statebred stakes rivals for the first time and scored modest upsets in a 1-2 finish for trainer Bernie Houghton. In August, Silhoutte Cove, then undefeated in two starts, faced his stablemate for the first time in a $50,000 allowance and finished second by 1 1/4 lengths. In the $100,000 Prince Lucky on Sept. 19, Come Prima scored a victory by disqualification, leaving Silhoutte Cove 2 1/2 lengths back in third. Both geldings were short-priced contenders in their first two meetings, but their rematch in the Jump Start was relegated to one of secondary interest. Four older geldings in the field were coming out of the $100,000 Storm Cat, which was also run on Sept. 19 and generally accepted to be the stronger race. Ninetyprcentmaddie, the winner of the Storm Cat at a mile and 70 yards, earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure in a photo finish victory over Wild Vine that day. Come Prima, the elevated winner of the Prince Lucky at seven furlongs, only earned a 75 earlier on that card. All four runners who were exiting the Storm Cat have won more races than Silhoutte Cove has participated in. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! In the end, however, the age-restricted Prince Lucky proved to be the more useful prep for the seven-furlong Jump Start, as the 3-year-old stablemates proved to be a step above their older rivals. Silhoutte Cove went off at 13-1 and paid $28.60 to win. The $1 exacta with 14-1 shot Come Prima paid $88.60. Dropline, the third-place finisher in the Storm Cat, went off as the 9-5 favorite in the Jump Start, likely because of his front-running ability. The 4-year-old gelding seemed firmly in command through an opening quarter-mile in 23.02 seconds and a half-mile in 46.15, but he had little to offer when Houghton’s 3-year-olds advanced together from stalking positions and swarmed him on the far turn. With Dropline out of the picture entering the stretch, Come Prima and jockey Ricardo Chiappe tried to take advantage of their position and cut the corner on the rail. Silhoutte Cove and Frankie Pennington picked off Dropline on the outside and kicked on to take a short lead turning for home. Though Come Prima dug in and sustained his ground-saving rally to the wire, Silhoutte Cove had slightly more momentum alongside him and didn’t give an inch. The two stablemates briefly dueled before Silhoutte Cove edged away to win by 1 3/4-lengths. He completed the seven-furlong distance in 1:23.76. Wild Vine, who came up short by a nose in the Storm Cat last month, made a late bid down the center but never challenged the winner. He finished a head behind Come Prima to finish third for trainer Jamie Ness. Ninetyprcentmaddie, the popular local runner trained by Butch Reid, applied early pressure to Dropline before fading to last.   Disco Chick  Trainer Hugo Padilla said that he had never seen Nature’s Candy more ready for stakes company than when he entered her in the $75,000 Disco Chick Stakes at Parx on Wednesday. The 5-year-old mare proved him right, kicking away to a determined 2 1/2-length victory. ON SALE NOW: DRF Breeders' Cup Packages! Get everything you need to win and save big. Last month, Nature’s Candy ran the best race of her career when she powered home on the front end to win a $55,000 allowance by six lengths. Padilla said he knew the soft fractions helped her that day, but she trained well enough after the race to confirm that the improvement was genuine. In a show of versatility, the mare did not take the early lead in the Disco Chick and instead chased 16-1 longshot Simply Stated through an opening quarter-mile in 22.78 seconds. Jockey Andy Hernandez did not urge her forward when her front-running rival extended her lead by 1 1/2 lengths on the backstretch through a half-mile in 46.11. Simply Stated did not last long on the far turn, and Hernandez was rewarded for his patience when Nature’s Candy easily drove past to take a one-length lead entering the stretch. Pachelbel, the 5-2 second choice who finished well behind Nature’s Candy earlier this month, could not have asked for a better opportunity for revenge when she and jockey Jorge Vargas slipped through on the rail to challenge for the lead. Saving the ground didn’t make a bit of difference, however, as Nature’s Candy easily held the familiar rival at bay all the way to the wire. The 3-5 favorite paid $3.40 to win and completed the seven-furlong distance in 1:26.18. Carousel Queen, the winner of the $100,000 Imply last month for trainer Scott Lake, closed from fifth to finish third. She finished 1 3/4 lengths behind Pachelbel, who was claimed by Mike Moore for $100,000 last time out. Confirmed Star, a 6-1 outside contender for trainer Butch Reid, lost all chance when she stumbled badly out of the gate. Jockey Mychel Sanchez barely managed to stay aboard and did not urge her to make up any ground thereafter. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
