Hough has options for Global Campaign's next start

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – In a perfect world, Global Campaign would have run here last Saturday in the Grade 3 Swale off his super-impressive debut win earlier in the meet. But Stanley Hough has been training horses long enough to know there is no such thing as a perfect world in this business, which is why he’ll be going to Plan B for the promising son of Curlin’s next start.
Global Campaign launched his career with a 5 3/4-length victory going seven furlongs here on Jan. 5, earning an 85 Beyer Speed Figure while being geared down by jockey Luis Saez in late stretch.
“We were hoping to run him in the Swale, but he grabbed a quarter, missed four or five days training at the wrong time, and missed a work as well,” said Hough.
Global Campaign finally got that work in Sunday morning at Palm Meadows where he breezed five furlongs in 1:00.40.
“He worked well, came back good, so he’s ready to run again,” Hough said on Monday. “I really want to run him here at Gulfstream and we have a couple of options coming up. I’d also like to stretch him out if I can.
Hough said that if he can’t find a race at Gulfstream for Global Campaign he would consider running him at Tampa Bay Downs Saturday in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis, a 1 1/16-mile race that serves as a prep for the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 9.
