Hotwalker, 75, dies at Aqueduct

David Grening|Dec 01, 2005

Jose Luis Hugo, a hotwalker who worked for trainer Mike Hushion, died Wednesday after suffering an apparent heart attack at Aqueduct. He was 75.

Hugo had just come up to the first floor of the clubhouse from the paddock, where he helped Hushion saddle Some Kind of Tiger for the sixth race. Hugo apparently fell after walking up one flight of stairs. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hushion said Hugo had worked for him for about 10 years. Despite Hugo's age, Hushion said "he was the brightest, healthiest guy in the barn." Hushion believes that Hugo had previously trained in Peru.
