Hotshot Anna wins third straight in Satin and Lace Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEHotshot Anna continued her hot streak with a victory in Monday night's $100,000 Satin and Lace Stakes for fillies and mares at Presque Isle Downs.
Hotshot Anna ($4.20), owned and trained by Hugh Robertson, earned her third consecutive victory, and second straight stakes score, in the Satin and Lace. She previously coasted to a 5 3/4-length victory in the Grade 3 Chicago Handicap in June at Arlington Park. The 4-year-old Trappe Shot filly, who also won the 2017 Northbound Pride Oaks at Canterbury Park and has placed in three other stakes, now sports a career mark of 6-5-1 from 17 starts. She pushed her earnings past a quarter-million dollars with Monday's win.
Red Dread, the longest shot in the Satin and Lace, hopped at the start but quickly rushed up to lead through a sharp opening quarter of 22.69 seconds. A length back, Puntsville, Crazy Sweet, and Hotshot Anna were lapped on one another stalking that pace. Hotshot Anna, ridden by Antonio Gallardo, moved first around the turn, coming three wide to take the lead through a half in 45.21 seconds. The outcome was never in doubt from there, as she widened her margin through the lane for a 3 3/4-length victory. She finished the six furlongs on Presque Isle's synthetic track in 1:08.89.
Crazy Sweet, who was making her stakes debut after five straight wins at Presque Isle, held second by a length over a rallying Jessica Krupnick.
The Satin and Lace is part of the female dirt sprint division in the Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred Championships (MATCH) Series, which Jessica Krupnick currently leads. She earned five points for her third-place finish, extending her divisional lead and moving her into a tie for second on the overall championship leaderboard. Hotshot Anna, who earned 10 points for the victory, and Crazy Sweet, who picked up seven points as the runner-up, both appeared in a series race for the first time.
