Hot Shot Kid, with an assist from stablemate Cinco Star, took down 1-10 favorite Mr. Jagermeister in the 10,000 Lakes Stakes, a $50,500 race over six furlongs. Cinco Star pestered Mr. Jagermeister, who had his ears pinned and didn’t look quite his best, through a half-mile in 44.11 seconds. Hot Shot Kid and jockey Francisco Arrieta lurked from a stalking position, pounced, and drew away late to post a 1 ½-length victory. Mr. Jagermeister held second, losing to Minnesota-bred for the first time in eight starts. Hot Shot Kid clocked 1:09.45 on a very fast-playing strip and paid $11.40. He won the 10,000 Lakes for the second year in a row.
Ready to Runaway needed no help to win the $50,000 Glass Slipper for fillies and mares, taking command of the race after a quarter mile and cruising to a 3 ¾-length win over Pinup Girl. Ready to Runaway clocked 1:09.71 for six furlongs and paid $3.20.
