Hot Shot Kid powered to a 6 1/4-length win over Plenty of Sun on Saturday in the $50,000 Minnesota Turf at Canterbury Park. The race was one of two stakes on the card. Pinup Girl captured the $50,000 Minnesota Distaff Turf.

The stakes were both scheduled for about 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, but were moved to the main track and run at a distance of a mile. The sealed surface was listed as sloppy.

Hot Shot Kid ($3) was always prominent through fractions of 22.89 seconds for the opening quarter, 46.48 for the half-mile, and 1:12.36 for six furlongs. He took over in the stretch and went on to cover the distance in 1:38.20.

Dean Butler was aboard the winner for trainer Mac Robertson.

Hot Shot Kid is a son of Majestic Warrior who races for his breeder, Warren Bush. Hot Shot Kid has now won six of 15 starts and the first-place check of $30,000 from Saturday increased his earnings to $255,133.

Pinup Girl ($4.80) rallied from off the pace for a neck win over Double Bee Sting in the Distaff Turf. It was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third to Ta Kela Warning.

Pinup Girl covered the distance in 1:39.03. Santiago Gonzalez was aboard for trainer Sandra Sweere.

Pinup Girl is a daughter of Stephen Got Even who races for her breeders, Gary and Brenda Bergsrud. She has now won six of 11 starts and $195,950. She was winning her third career stakes in the Distaff Turf.
