Hot Shot Kid and Ari Gia win Canterbury stakes

Hot Shot Kid and Ari Gia won Minnesota-bred stakes races at muddy Canterbury Park on Saturday.
Hot Shot Kid captured the $46,450 10,000 Lakes Stakes by 4 ½ lengths after A P Is Loose and Mr. Jagermeister, who would have been an overwhelming favorite, were scratched, leaving a three-horse field.
Hot Shot Kid and jockey Francisco Arrieta stalked three wide in this six-furlong sprint before taking over and drawing away to an easy win. Hot Shot Kid paid $2.60 (place and show betting were canceled) and ran six furlongs in 1:10.08. Mac Robertson trains Hot Shot Kid for owner-breeder Warren Bush, and the 5-year-old gelding, by Majestic Warrior out of the Officer mare Our Sweet Mary B, ran his record to an outstanding 23-9-7-1.
Arrieta was aboard a race later when Ari Gia wired the $50,000 Lady Slipper Stakes, getting her six furlongs in 1:10.29 and paying $5.60 to win as the favorite. Owner-trainer Jose Silva Jr. claimed Ari Gia for just $6,250 last November at Turf Paradise, and the 5-year-old mare, by Giacomo out of Mamselle Aries, has since won five of seven starts. Honey’s Sox Appeal finished second, 3 ½ lengths behind the winner, and Double Bee Sting was third.
* Tut’s Revenge outdueled 7-5 favorite Bano Solo and won the $50,000 Golden Circle Stakes by three-quarters of a length Friday night at Prairie Meadows. Tut’s Revenge ($6.40) is trained by Clinton Stuart for Claim to Fame Stable and was ridden by Walter de la Cruz. The 3-year-old is by Eskendereya out of Cat Five’ O, by Pleasantly Perfect, and was coming off a maiden win at Oaklawn Park. All Around, Colonel Klink, and Oil Money were scratched.
